Asset Management Software
20 January 2010Managing assets is becoming a very intelligent game these days and there are professional firms that are specializing in the same and offer services to their customers and charge them fees as well. In such a competitive market it is little surprise that there is asset management software that is available, that will help us do a lot of things over the computer thus saving us a lot of time. Just like the intervention of the computer in all other walks of life has eased down the strain and tension and work pressure, similarly the advent of the asset management software has definitely led to simplification of a lot of processes.
When we use the term asset management, we need to talk of software as well as hardware assessment. Asset management software has been specialized to handle both software and hardware – if we have to explain this a little, it is nothing but, there could be some software programs that are needed for some applications to run. Any given system could have multiple programs like this and these definitely need to be managed and organized for better performance and to prevent virus from getting on to this system. This will be done by the software asset management system. On the other hand, there might be printers, cd-writers, floppy discs etc, that form part of the computer itself and aid in the functioning of the system. These also need to be equally maintained and can be done using the hardware asset management software.
How actual asset management software work is that the end to end process is defined on the software and then each and every step of the process is tracked as and when it is executed. Asset management starts with requests to procure goods. Once the request comes in, there is a check that is done to check if the request is genuine and if yes, this is passed on saying the request for the purchase has been approved. Once the procurement has been approved, the next step would be to ensure a smooth process while the procurement happens. After the procurement is done, these assets are then dispatched or deployed according to the request that came in for their purchase.
Other activities that are done using Asset Management Software are activities like bar coding the goods and maintaining a spare inventory. Anybody who has a little background knowledge will understand and appreciate the value of these activities. Bar coding is essential to identify the make and serial number of the goods and at times also helps in costing purposes. There are machines that have been enabled to read bar codes and these barcodes ease the billing purpose as well. Maintaining inventory is the backbone of any running industry. The practice of maintaining a well balanced spare inventory helps avoid unnecessary tensions and last minute pressures. The spare needs to be well balanced so that re-order can be done accordingly. Asset management software most of the time helps in procurement of licenses also.
